On the night of February 14th, 2022, a single ferret wandered into our home through the doggy door in the backyard. It was a -20 degree night with 5 feet of snow covering the ground in Wyoming. Frisco, as we later named him, navigated past our dogs and cats, finding refuge under our bed. The next morning, while making our bed, we discovered him standing there, and we were both shocked and excited. We immediately contacted local animal control to report our ferret rescue in Casper and reached out to humane societies, local vets, pet stores, and made social media posts to find his owners. For 30 days, no one claimed this beautiful, gentle boy. When we followed up with animal control, we were delighted to learn that we could keep him. By that time, we had already fallen in love and couldn’t imagine letting him go. Sadly, Frisco has since passed on, but he leaves behind a beautiful legacy in his namesake, reminding us of the importance of ferret rescue organizations.
